LaRocco races for first win at RCA Dome.
AURORA, Ill. (February 24, 2002) - Honda's Mike LaRocco, of South Bend, Ind., returns to Indianapolis' RCA Dome in hot pursuit of his first 2003 THQ World Supercross GP/AMA Supercross win. LaRocco will be available for interviews at the RCA Dome on Thursday, February 27 from Noon-2:00 p.m.
Last year, LaRocco finished in fifth place at the RCA Dome as more than 57,000 fans watched Yamaha's David Vuillemin catch and pass defending supercross champion Ricky Carmichael for his third win of the season. Vuillemin was one of three riders to beat Carmichael in 2002.
LaRocco, the winner of nine 250cc supercross main events, has never won at the RCA Dome. This season his best finish was second at Anaheim on January 18.
Ricky Carmichael, the two-time defending champion from Havana, Fla., earned his fifth win of the season last weekend at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta in front of 63, 749 fans. Brock Sellards, who is riding in his first season with Yamaha of Troy, won his third-career 125cc supercross race.
"I have been spending too much time out in California," said Sellards. "There are a lot of things to get you sidetracked out there. I finally got to go back into no man's land in Georgia. We don't have a neighbor around so it's kind of just hang out, work on the track, work on your bike, wait to ride, go for a jog, and that's the excitement of the day."
Beginning on Tuesday, February 4 more than 500 truckloads of dirt will be brought into the RCA Dome to create a track that will entertain the crowd and challenge the riders, as they launch some 75' in distance and three stories high off of the triple jump.
Tickets are still available through Ticketmaster, Ticketmaster.com or the RCA Box Office.
