Sam Boyd Stadium: The first supercross event was held at Sam Boyd Stadium on 3/17/90 and Kawasaki's Jeff Matesevich won the main event. Jeff Emig and Mike LaRocco each won their first 250cc supercross in Las Vegas in '95 and '91, respectively.
McGrath's First: Jeremy McGrath won his first supercross at Sam Boyd Stadium on a KX 125cc back in 1990. That win kicked off a three-year 125cc win streak in Las Vegas ('90-'92) and carried over to the 250cc class ('98-'00). McGrath did not compete at Sam Boyd in '95 - the only start he ever missed on a 250cc.
Two Brands: Carmichael became the first in 250cc supercross history to win titles on two different brands, Kawasaki and Honda. Carmichael can break the 'most wins in two seasons' record (24) with a win this weekend. McGrath and Carmichael currently share this record.
Oh Henry: In 1997, Doug Henry made history in Las Vegas by winning the first 250cc supercross on a four stroke.
Honda Needs a Win: Honda has not won a 250cc supercross in Las Vegas since 1994 when McGrath won. Things look good for Honda, as Carmichael enters the race with a win percentage of 77% over the past two seasons.
Still Climbing: After finishing 13th at the opening round, McGrath has been in the top 10 in 14 consecutive rounds, with three podiums.
Seven Titles: Ricky Carmichael captured his second 250cc EA SPORTS Supercross championship last weekend in Salt Lake City, earning his 10th win on the season. This championship marks his seventh major AMA title, which ties him with Jeff Ward and Ricky Johnson. Carmichael clinched the championship last year in Salt Lake City as well.
125cc Dave Coombs Sr. 125cc East/West Shootout: Honda hot shoe Travis Preston wrapped up his first 125cc Western Regional Supercross championship last weekend and Australian rookie Chad Reed won his first 125cc Eastern Regional championship in Pontiac, Mich. In Las Vegas, the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout, which started in '95, has been won by a Eastern Regional rider four times and a Western Regional rider three times.
