Hayden tunes up for Big Kahuna Nationals at Road Atlanta with two more recent wins.

BRASELTON, GA - With eight wins in the last nine AMA Chevy Trucks Superbike races, including a doubleheader sweep at Sears Point Sunday, Honda's Nicky Hayden is already acting like a Big Kahuna.

Next he gets his chance to officially claim one of motorcycle racing's top titles, if he can continue his winning ways in the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals May 17-19 at Road Atlanta.

"This feels awesome," Hayden says. "To win a doubleheader is incredible. I want to do it again."

The Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals is AMA's original doubleheader - with points-paying races both Saturday and Sunday - and the Road Atlanta event remains one of AMA's premier events. This year's Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals will be Rounds 6 and 7 of the 2002 AMA Superbike series, and Hayden has already won four times this year.

Suzuki's Mat Mladin, the defending Big Kahuna and AMA Superbike points champion, has yet to win this year. He missed the season-opening Daytona 200 due to injuries and finished seventh and sixth in the two races at Sears Point. and comes to Road Atlanta just seventh in the championship standings with 103 points, 75 behind the front-running Hayden.

Hayden is 60 points ahead of his closest competitor, Anthony Gobert, but Aaron Yates of Milledgeville, GA, just two points behind Gobert in third with 116 points.

Yates will run both the Superbike and Pro Honda Oils Supersport races at Road Atlanta. He won this third straight Supersport race aboard his Blimpie Yoshimura Suzuki Sunday at Sears Point and is the points leader. Yates also finished second Sunday to Hayden in the Superbike race at Sears Point.
