Atlanta, Ga. - Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki's Ricky Carmichael (Havana, Fla.) extended his 250cc EA SPORTS Supercross points lead with his fourth win in a row tonight in front of a near sell-out crowd. Nathan Ramsey (Corona, Calif.), who rides for Team Yamaha of Troy/Fox, nailed down his first 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross win since 1999 he won the championship.
Winning his seventh career supercross event, Carmichael started the 250cc main event in second place behind $1,000 SFX Holeshot Award winner Jeremy McGrath with Tim Ferry (Largo, Fla.) in tow. Carmichael, 21, didn't take his time to move into the No. 1 position; it took two turns and from there it was over. As the field made their way around Lap 1, Ferry moved into second place but bobbled, allowing McGrath to move into second place, where he would stay until the end of the race. Team Honda/Universal Studios' Ezra Lusk finished third.
"I am feeling really good," said Carmichael. "I needed to have a good start out here tonight and I did. This track was physically demanding. Jeremy is hanging in there, but I need to keep doing what I am doing."
In the 125cc main event, a wild pile up in the first turn that captured 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross points leader Travis Pastrana (Annapolis, Mary.) and Brandon Jesseman (Fombell, Pa.) left some breathing room for Ramsey to earn the $500 SFX Holeshot Award. Ramsey, who won the 125cc Western Regional Supercross title in 1999, lead from wire to wire, as he captured the win and series points lead. Team KTM/Red Bull rider Brock Sellards (New Philadelphia, Ohio) finished second and Team Yamaha of Troy/Fox's Nick Wey (Dewitt, Mich.) finished third.
"I am here in front of a lot of family and friends, and there is no better place to win," said Ramsey. "I saw that Travis (Pastrana) crashed, and I was hoping that nothing serious happened to him. This is a great feeling." <pre> The current 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross season points standings after Round 7 1) Nathan Ramsey 47 pts 2) Michael Brown 38 pts 2) Nick Wey 38 pts (tie) 3) Brock Sellards 36 pts
