PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Bryan Bigelow will go down in the AMA record books as the final champion in the short-lived, but important SuperTrapp SuperTrackers Series. Bigelow, 21, of Au Gres, Mich., took five podium finishes in the nine-race series, including wins at Hagerstown, Md., Lima, Ohio, and Harrington, Del. Bigelow will share the honor of being one of only two SuperTracker champions with Joe Kopp, who won the title in 1999 and 2000.

The SuperTracker Series was founded in 1999 to help bring street-based motorcycles into AMA dirt-track racing. For 2002 SuperTracker bikes will be implemented into the premier AMA Progressive Insurance U.S. Flat Track Championships Grand National class.

Bigelow made an impressive run to win the 2001 championship. After missing the first round of the series in Houston, Bigelow charged back to win round two in Hagerstown, Md. By round three in Superior, Wis., he had moved into a tie for third in the series standings. Bigelow's win at Lima in June put him in the series lead for the first time where he held the series lead to the end of the season. Bigelow rode a Buell in the championships.

"I'd like to thank Lancaster Harley-Davidson for giving me the chance to ride that bike," said Bigelow, who was the AMA Dirt Track Rookie of the Year in 1998. "Last winter I didn't even have any plans to ride this class, so to win the championship is pretty cool. At Houston, the bike wasn't ready so we missed that race, but we won the next and we won a couple more. I'm really proud to win this championship, I know it's not the Grand National Championship, but it's nice to be called a champion." This year could be considered a breakthrough season for Bigelow. In addition to winning the SuperTrackers Series, he also earned his first AMA Grand National victory at the Springfield (Ill.) Short Track on August 31.
