Smart Strategy sees Injured Reed move into Second

Riding under an injury cloud and with limited opportunity to resume any form of training, Australian Supercross star Chad Reed has ridden a remarkable race at Anaheim 2, the third round of the 2007 AMA Supercross Series to finish second and subsequently move into second place in the championship.

For the third round in succession Reed has shown resilience and gutsy determination in his quest to conquer this year's championship and recorded his third podium in a row whilst riding with a debilitating shoulder blade and collarbone injury.

After winning his heat earlier in the day Reed was afforded second pick of the starting gate. The successful selection saw him third off the line in the 20-lap Main Event and after settling into a sustainable race pace, move into second position on lap seven of the race.

Reed worked hard to minimize the gap to the race and championship leader last night and while the championship weighs heavy on his mind, both he and his L&M/San Manual Band of Mission Indians/Yamaha team agree the priority is to get the champion rider 100% fit.

"It is frustrating to compromise my riding while I let the shoulder heal but that's just the way it is," Reed said.

"This week will be a big leap forward as I hope to begin mid week practice on the bike and I haven't been able to do this since the crash."

"We are not making any mistakes out there and my speed will improve with the healing process."

"We are not even a quarter of the way through the championship so stay tuned as the best is yet to come," Reed added.
