Petaluma, CA (May 1, 2012) - ALMS brings its international flair to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the six-hour American Le Mans Monterey Presented by Patrón.
When Kevin Buckler first started The Racer's Group in 1992, Laguna Seca was his home track. His familiarity with the beautiful and challenging 2.238-mile, 11-turn circuit is evident in TRG's outstanding record at this iconic track. Ten podiums with three wins, including last year's victory by Spencer Pumpelly, Duncan Ende, and Peter Ludwig, show that the careful attention to detail and understanding of this course has paid off time and again.
"This place is very special to me," says Buckler. "Although we always want to win, it just seems a bit more personal here. Laguna has always been good to us, and we're back with a really strong group of drivers and cars that have shown great speed all year. We have a serious shot to win this thing."
For the first time in the American Le Mans Series season, TRG will run two 911 GT3 Cup Porsches in GTC. The No. 66 Grupo SK18, ADE Cargo, Solar Cargo, Venezuela, Avior Air Line entry will compete with TRG Drivers, Emilio Di Guida, Jeroen Bleekemolen and World Challenge driver Bret Curtis. Joining them will be the No. 68 entry, where Buckler has gone to old friend and fellow pilot Tracy Krohn to headline his driver lineup for Laguna Seca. Joining Krohn will be Porsche GT3 hotshoe and Daytona 24 driver, Mike Hedlund, and European Supercup ace, Nick Tandy.
"So far this season, all of the tracks have been new to me," said Di Guida, who finished fifth in GTC at last year's race. "I'm looking forward to getting back to Laguna Seca. The TRG Porsche has been great all year, and we should be very fast here."
"It will be nice to be back with Kevin and TRG," stated Krohn. "We had a great run back in 2005 when we ran the DP's together for the season. I love Laguna Seca and look forward to this weekend and a potential win."
"I consider Laguna Seca my home track," said Hedlund. "I've had great results here, including winning my first IMSA start. Having friends and family in the stands, at an absolutely epic track to drive, combined with the beautiful Monterey weather and scenery make this race the perfect place for my rookie ALMS start. We're looking good for a great result."
"I'm really looking forward to racing at Laguna Seca," said Tandy. "It's a circuit I have watched many races on and I can't wait to get there! To be doing the race with one of Porsche's finest teams, TRG, means we should have all the tools necessary to have a great weekend."
"This is going to be a really cool weekend", stated Buckler. " We have six fantastic drivers and some good friends in the car this weekend. I will be there helping the guys with anything I can starting with the first practice session and we are looking to put two cars on the podium this weekend!!!"
