Flying Sugden's Mid Season Gap
Leeds UK based driver Tim Sugden has had a busy year so far with 7 races netting 5 podiums, 3 in Europe and 2 in the USA. These results see him lying 2nd in the FIA GT2 championship and 3rd in the American Le Mans Series in the same class. Following the win with GruppeM co-driver Emmanuel Collard in Italy at Imola Tim has a 4 week gap in his programme before the next FIA GT round at Brno in the Czech Republic on the 26th June.
To fill this gap Tim is busy in his driver management business but is also flying out to China next weekend for the opening of the new Porsche Centre at Qingdao for his GruppeM team owner Kenny Chen. This new venture is featured on the Asian Porsche Infineon Carrera Cup car no 38 driven by current British GT champion Jonathan Cocker who will be busy that weekend in rounds 4 and 5 of the Carrera Cup at Bira in Thailand having won round 2 of the series in Malaysia.
On returning from the China trip Tim will be at Le Mans for the 24 Hour race but as neither GruppeM nor his American team J3 Racing have an entry he will be joining a group of his sponsors for a spectating weekend at La Sarth.
After Brno Tim will have two races in the ALMS at Lime Rock Park and Sonoma with J3 Racing and Justin Jackson interspersed with an LMES race at Monza with Jonathan Cocker so he will continue to build up his air miles to say the least!
At the Lime Rock Park race in Lakeville Tim is hoping to repeat the good performance from last year when he led the race for almost two hours and only lost out on a final podium spot (they finished 4th) when the team was unlucky with their final yellow flag pit stop. It is important that the team gets a good result here to consolidate their second place in the ALMS GT2 team table and Tim's third in the driver listings.
As for the LMES race at Monza the GruppeM team will be looking for better luck than at the opening race at Spa Francorchamps when they retired with engine trouble when leading the GT2 class. Tim returns to FIA action after Sonoma with the GruppeM team at Spa with the 24 hour race on the 30/31 July.
