GMG Racing's James Sofronas is a familiar name to American road racing fans as both a driver and businessman. But what makes him tick? The first installment of 'Getting to Know You' attempts to answer that question.
Q: What was the most interesting job you have had prior to getting your big break as a driver?
A: I used to cut down trees and clear out back yards for families looking to install pools.
Q: If you could trade places with anyone for one day who would it be and why?
A: Bono from U2...so I could sing to the world!
Q: Do you have a hidden talent?
A: I am a pretty good dancer and I can sing! I sung in the NY State Boys Choir back in the day!
Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: Growing up with the most amazing family, both in Tokyo and Vienna Austria, before coming back to the States.
Q: Who is your hero and why?
A: My father - a dedicated family man who took the greatest care of our family.
Q: Do you have a motto or quote you like to live by?
A: YOLO: You Only Live Once!

A: Gladiators! I fought for everything I have.
Q: Do you have any pre-race rituals?
A: I kiss my wife and daughter. If they aren't with me, I tell them I love them via a call.
Q: Have you ever had to "go" while in the racecar?
A: Luckily no ... but have had some close calls! One time on pre-grid with five minutes before the green, I had to jump out and sprint to a bathroom and just made the start!
Q: What was your favorite toy as a child?
A: A Bigwheel!
Q: Under the firesuit...boxers or briefs?
Q: What is the fastest speeding ticket you have received and where?
A: 110mph on my way up to Long Beach...ouch!!
