Pierre Ehret takes rank four with Ferrari at 12 Hours of Sebring

During his sixth start at the 12 Hours of Sebring Pierre Ehret closely missed the podium. In the end he reached rank four with the Ferrari of Tafel Racing.

The classic race in Florida was the traditional season start of the American Le Mans Series 2008. The 56th edition promised to be a thrilling race.

Pierre Ehret headed for the race with teamhead Jim Tafel and Allan Simonsen and was able to place the 450 PS strong Ferrari more and more in front during the free practice sessions. At first one was classified sixth, but improved to fifth and finally even fourth rank.

An accident in qualifying forced the race control to cancel the session and so one took the fastest lap times of the free practice sessions in order to built the starting grid. So Ehret started the race from the second row in the GT2 category.

"We were really happy with that, because we had all chances for the 12 Hours now", Ehret explained before the race, mentioning the heat and demanding track as the most important difficulties to be handled. "You do not need the fastest pilots but rather the fittest and most constant ones. That's the way to get to the top."

And so he aimed to improve his best result at Sebring ( 4th) from last year. "That would be great, but competition is fierce this year and especially the Porsche can not be underestimated!"

He was right with his forecast. At the end of the 314 laps Porsche celebrated a double win while Ehret took a well-deserved fourth rank. But he was happy with it since he was only slightly slower than the professional driver Allan Simonsen. "I could handle the traffic on track well and the car ran withouth any problems. The Michelin tyres were excellent and had a big part in this result."

With regard to evaluating his finish Ehret remarks "There were two incidents of yellow flags which made us lose time. Morerover a repair made us loose 3 more laps ." Reason was a lost exterior mirror which had to be fixed in the pits. A smaller problem was the drinking mechanism partly not working properly. Since temperature in the car was extremley high, that demanded a lot of energy from the drivers.

"Maybe podium could have been possible with a little bit of luck", Ehret said. "After my second stint we already were third until we dropped back in the end to fourth again."

Now the next highlight is ready to go. At the end of March, Ehret is going to receive his new Ferrari F430 GTC at Fiorano. "I am really looking forward to that and afterwards we will aim for the season start of the Le Mans Series on 6th of April at Barcelona."
