Fourth place for Pierre Ehret at Sebring
Pierre Ehret and his Team Farnbacher-Loles ended the 55th edition of the 12 Hours of Sebring in fourth position. At the same time the race in Sebring was the season start for the American Le Mans Series 2007.
The 12 Hours of Sebring race is the oldest Sportscar race in the US and is held for 55 years now. It is a 5.95 km long track, attracting thousands of fans to Florida each year.
This year too, the Californian Pierre Ehret took a seat in the "Flamingo Resort Hotel"- Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, which was prepared by Farnbacher-Loles.
After one had technical problems last year, one aimed to see chequered flag this year in any case. "If everything works properly, we could reach a position about rank five", stated Pierre Ehret before the race.
And indeed, together with his teammates Dirk Werner and Lars-Erik Nielsen it even run slightly better. After 12 Hours one reached rank four and Ehret was happy: "We only had one bigger problem. Our heim joint got broken which made us lose three laps. Moreover the Yokohama-tyres did not fit that good with our 997."
More difficulties Pierre Ehret had to deal with were physical. He suffered from a flu. The consequence were conditional problems in the hot car. "And since the cooling west did not work smoothly, that was a hard job!"
During qualifying on Thursday Dirk Werner drove nineth best time, saving a starting rank from row five. "The gap can be explained; the reason are the tyres. Most of the other teams drove on Michelin tyres which fit better with the Porsches this year", explained Ehret.
Porsche Carrera Cup champion Dirk Werner drove the first stint, handing the car over to Ehret after two hours. He drove 60 minutes before Nielsen did his turn for 60 minutes too.
After the first stint it became clear to the drivers that the race should become hard this year. "It is not only the bumpy track you have to deal with", so Ehret "The GT2 grid is very competetive with 18 cars. The driver quality is great too. Everybody of distinction is present this year."
But the team around teammanager Horst Farnbacher did a great job. After 316 laps the "Flamingo Resort Hotel"- Porsche crossed finish line on rank four.
"This was a very good work of the entire team", resumed Pierre Ehret. "We celebrated the result the whole night, which became longer and longer."
