Aston Martin Racing picks Pirelli for Sebring 12-hour race

The two Aston Martin Racing DBR9s which will contest this weekend's endurance race at Sebring will be fitted with Pirelli tyres as part of a new partnership officially announced today.

George Howard-Chappell, Team Principal of Aston Martin Racing, said: "There's obviously a period of adjustment when starting a new relationship with a tyre manufacturer. It's bound to take us some time to get to know each other, to tune the tyres to the car and vice versa, but our testing at Vallelunga and Sebring was promising and gives us every reason to feel optimistic about this association."

Aston Martin and Pirelli both have long and illustrious motor racing pedigrees and share a commitment to developing their products in the heat of competition. Pirelli's racing heritage stretches back almost a century to 1907 when the Italian owned company won its first race. Aston Martin made its international racing debut in 1922 when two cars competed in the French Grand Prix and first contested the Sebring endurance race in 1950.

The 54th running of the Sebring endurance classic is scheduled to start at 1030hrs EST on 18 March and marks the start of the 2006 American Le Mans Series season.
