Coming off a solid finish in Lime Rock 2 weeks ago where Marino completed 1hr 45mins of the 2hr 45min race in the no: 51 works' Panoz Esperante GTLM, the championship heads to the Californian west coast for the next round of the ALMS Championship at Infineon Raceway on Sunday, 17th July.
"Lime Rock was a tough race," said Marino "unfortunately none of the full course yellows fell in our favour, but we ran in the top 3 nearly all day so although we were unhappy not to finish there we have something to build on.
I was unexpectedly asked to qualify as I'd only done a handful of laps on the track which I'd never seen before, but I managed 5th just 3/10ths off our sister car. I was quite happy with that and I got a really good race start and managed to hold third place for quite a while until my seat broke, so it then became a bit of a battle trying to hold myself up in the seat at the same negotiating the very short track - about 55secs around the 1.54 miles - with the prototypes nearly 10 seconds a lap quicker than us!
The next race is at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, and the last time I raced there I finished on the podium, it was my first one in the ALMS so it brings back some very happy memories and it would be great if Bryan and I could repeat that next weekend."
It's an early start - at 11.00 am local time for the Grand Prix of Sonoma, so Sunday lunchtime is going to be busy for Marino and his co-driver, Bryan Sellers! In Europe you can watch the race live - 7.00pm in the UK - on Motors TV.
