Zytek scores fantastic second place at Petit Le Mans 1000 mile battle sees Zytek battle at the front to secure brilliant result against Audi
Banbury-based Zytek Motorsport enjoyed a superb second place at the 1000 mile Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in the USA. Drivers Stefan Johansson, Johnny Mowlem and Haruki Kurosawa finished only second to the factory Audi diesel R10 after a gruelling 9 hour race.
In front of a 90,000 strong crowd the race was not without incident for the Zytek team. Early on the car had a brush with a considerably slower Porsche 911 but was able to continue. Later a puncture caused further drama but the team delivered a great result in their first race in the 2006 American Le Mans Series in a car designed, built and powered by Zytek.
Former Formula One driver Stefan Johansson said after the race "A great result! We ran very hard with the Creation car at mid- race and that was pretty exciting. I hope this race makes it possible for the Zytek to be back next year". British driver, Johnny Mowlem, driving the Zytek for the first time added "Well better lucky than good, as they say. Having said that, we were always up there, and if not for a puncture, we were leading. It is a great result".
The Zytek team plans to participate in the season finale at the famous Laguna Seca circuit on October 21st. Last year saw Zytek win the 4 hour race, a stern test as cars race through the twilight and into darkness.
