ANOTHER ENDURANCE PODIUM FOR PANOZ PTG DUO?

After going at it together for 12 hours at Sebring in March, Dominik Farnbacher and Ian James will drive all 1,000 miles themselves in Panoz Team PTG's Panoz Esperante GTLM at the 12th annual Petit Le Mans powered by MAZDA6. It certainly worked well in the season-opener - Farnbacher and James placed a hard-fought third in GT2.

The Panoz will go up against entries from Porsche, Ferrari, Chevrolet, BMW, Ford, Dodge and Jaguar. Of the 14 entries in GT2, only three others will do Petit Le Mans with two drivers.

"Sebring is much harder on you than Petit Le Mans," said Farnbacher, who will make his fourth start in the American Le Mans Series' cornerstone event. "After Sebring, my arms were bruised and sore from steering the car over the bumps. But at least at Sebring there are a couple of long straights where you can catch your breath. You don't have that here with the turns and elevation changes."

James' last race at Road Atlanta was for PTG in 2006 - he drove a BMW M3.

"This is always a really good race, one of the best of the year," the 2004 LMP2 Series champion said. "The layout of the track will make it challenging especially with traffic. There are a lot of prototypes (11 in LMP1 alone) so we will have to check our mirrors constantly."

The 12th annual Petit Le Mans powered by MAZDA6 is Saturday, September 26. The American Le Mans Series' cornerstone event at Road Atlanta in Braselton Ga., is a 1,000-mile/10-hour endurance classic. The green flag is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. ET with SPEED airing live television coverage starting at 11 a.m. ET. American Le Mans Radio presented by Porsche and Living Timing & Scoring will be available on Racehub at americanlemans.com. Live coverage also can be heard on Sirius 126 and XM 242. You can follow the Series on Twitter (almsnotes) and Facebook.

The race will also mark the ninth round of the 2009 MICHELIN® GREEN X® Challenge. Tickets are available at americanlemans.com and roadatlanta.com.
