Champions crowned as American Le Mans season ends at Road Atlanta.

BRASELTON, Ga. (October 12, 2002) -- Tom Kristensen won the American Le Mans Series championship in style Saturday as he and co-driven Rinaldo Capello drove their Audi R8 to victory in Audi presents Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

Kristensen and Capello finished 59.972 seconds ahead of the Audi co-driven by Stefan Johansson and Johnny Herbert in the 1,000-mile sports car endurance race on the 2.54-mile, 12-turn circuit. The race lasted nine hours, 29 minutes.

All four class champions for the season also scored race wins in the event. Ron Fellows won the GTS class title as he and co-drivers Johnny O'Connell and Oliver Gavin drove to victory in a Chevrolet Corvette C5-R.

Jon Field won the LMP 675 class championship as he and co-drivers Duncan Dayton and Michael Durand won their class in the race in the Intersport Lola EX257-MG.

Lucas Luhr and Sascha Maassen ended the season as co-champions of the GT class with a victory in the Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
