Pierre Ehret Takes Rank 7 in American Le Mans Series in Road Atlanta

On rank seven Pierre Ehret finished the 9th round of the American Le Mans Series in Road Atlanta (Georgia - USA) the last weekend (1st to 4th October 2008). Together with the US-Americans Jim Tafel and Alex Figge he started with a Ferrari F430 GTC.

"I think we can be very content with place seven in this very tough race", Pierre Ehret explained after the 1.000-Miles-Race in the south of the USA.

The beginning was far away from being lucky. The first two free practice sessions one had to deal with gearbox problems of the Ferrari. "We were not able to engage a gear, since gearshift was broken", Ehret stated. After one fixed the problem and started for the third session a defect on the exhaust system occurred. "So we had to seize the night training in order to begin with our setup finding, which surely was no advantage."

So the team followed Ehret's suggestion to use the Qualifying as practice session. Alex Figge and Ehret took the chance to make themselves familiar with the track. "This was our only opportunity and finally proved to be very valuable."

The race-start of the 37 cars on the 4.088 kilometres long circuit was driven by Alex Figge, who later on handed the car over to Pierre Ehret, who drove a double stint. Without any problems Ehret switched the car to Jim Tafel, who had a small crash after about an hour. The latter was in an overtaking action, when suddenly getting off the track. "This problem was a common one on this tight track", Ehret said. "Especially in the Ferrari you do not have the best view. And when the prototypes approach, you have to be careful, that you aren't pushed off the line.!"

Due to the accident one had to do some work in the pits and lost 3 laps until one rejoined the race. Since halftime one was able to improve the position in GT2 category more and more. Another smaller problem was the heating of the front brake, which was an effect from the accident before. It got hotter and hotter and forced the team into pits for several extra stops. This cost time and after 331 laps Tafel Racing took rank seven in the end.

"The race was difficult and the result is OK. With a little bit of luck, there might have been possible a better result. On the other hand we had a bigger gap to the top and to the back of the grid", Pierre Ehret resumes.

Already in 14 days Pierre Ehret and his teammates are heading for the next race. The final round of the American Le Mans Series will be held on 18th October 2008 in Laguna Seca.
