MOWLEM, ZYTEK TAKE SECOND IN PETIT LEMANS EVENT

BRASELTON, Ga. (Sept. 30, 2006) -- Johnny Mowlem's return to prototype racing was a smashing success. Mowlem and his two Zytek Racing co-drivers raced with the leaders for 1,000 miles and finished second in the Petit Le Mans race in the American Le Mans Series at Road Atlanta.

Mowlem drove the Zytek in the LMP 1 class, the fastest cars in the ALMS, along with former Ferrari and McLaren Formula One driver Stefan Johansson and Haruki Kurosawa. It was Mowlem's first race in a prototype sports car since he raced with Jan Lammers and Tony Stewart in the 2002 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The Zytek, with Johansson at the wheel after Mowlem's first stint, led the race just after the halfway point. But a flat tire forced a pit stop and put the team in a position where it had to chase the leaders.

"I think, if we hadn't had the puncture, we could have won the race," Mowlem said.

Mowlem, who co-drive a Ferrari to a class victory in the previous ALMS race, climbed into the Zytek for his first stint 149 laps into the race around Road Atlanta's 2.5-mile road course. His bold move in a 150-mph section of the track keyed his drive to move the car from fifth place to third. That drive drew raves from television commentators.

"I felt good about my contribution to the effort," Mowlem said.

The popular British racer only sat in the car for the first time four days before the race. While he is best known for his racing in GT cars, Mowlem has now raced successfully in the elite class of North American sports car racing, the LMP1 class.

Mowlem celebrated the next day by skydiving for the first time.

Mowlem will be in action again Oct. 7 in an International GT Series race in Valencia, Spain. He will drive a Porsche GT3RSR in that event.

The next race for the ALMS is the Oct. 19-21 race at Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. Mowlem will drive an Aston Martin DBR9S for the Autosport Design Racing in the SPEED World GT Challenge, a support event for the ALMS event.
