BAM! (British American Motorsport) was eighth in the GT class after the first five hours of the 10-hour, 1000-mile Petit Le Mans on the 2.54-mile Road Atlanta road course.
Lucas Luhr started the No. 43 YES Network Porsche 911 GT3 RSR from the back of the grid because the team changed tires after the qualifying session. He moved from 16th to 12th in class on the first lap, then steadily worked through the field to seventh after 17 minutes. Leo Hindery, Jr. took over at 22 minutes, returning to the track 14th. He moved up two positions before pitting at 1h20. Adam Jones drove the third stint and charged to eighth.
Luhr started his second stint at 2h50. He returned to the track in ninth place, then regained two positions to seventh before he handed off to Hindery at 4h20.
"It's been like a sprint race in some ways. As soon as you're on the same lap as the other guy and they're right in front of you, you've just got to keep going. In long-distance [races], you don't tend to be as close to the other cars. If we just continue what we're doing and stay out of trouble, we should be able to bring it home in a good position."
"The car is really good through the corners and the esses; I was quicker than anybody else. But on the straight, they were pulling away a little bit. After the race we need to see what's going on there, because I was losing quite a lot of speed on the straightaway."
Adam Jones shares a love of cars and racing with his friends in the popular UB40 reggae band. The Jones family and band members met through racing.
"My family has known them for many, many years," Jones explained. "My father used to do some rally car driving and they had a connection through a friend who used to build the rally cars. I know a couple of members of the band. I went to their concert at Christmas time, in a big arena right next to where I live, and it was fantastic! They're a good bunch of guys."
