INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 3, 2007) - Andretti Green Racing announced today that Brazilian Vitor Meira will join drivers Bryan Herta and Tony Kanaan behind the wheel of the #26 XM Satellite Radio Acura ARX-01a in this weekend's Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
Meira is replacing Dario Franchitti, who was released yesterday from his Andretti Green Racing driver agreement.
Meira, who is a veteran of 76 starts in the IndyCar Series, has posted 25 top-five and 49 top-10 finishes during his career, including a runner-up finish in the 2005 Indianapolis 500.
Meira has one previous American Le Mans Series (ALMS) start, which resulted in a third-place overall finish in last year's running of the Petit Le Mans.
The Andretti Green driver trio will be looking to give the team its second win of the 2007 ALMS season. The XM Acura team scored an LMP2 class win at the season-opening Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 17.
Vitor Meira, #26 XM Satellite Radio Acura ARX-01a:
"This is a great opportunity for me and I'm looking forward to driving for Andretti Green Racing with Bryan and Tony. I know XM and Acura have put a lot of effort into the car and hopefully I can help them win their first Petit Le Mans."
Michael Andretti, Chief Executive Officer, Andretti Green Racing:
"Vitor has shown a lot of speed throughout his career and will help give us a good shot to compete for a win this weekend at Road Atlanta. He's done a great job for Honda over the years and we're excited about seeing him in the XM Acura this weekend with Bryan and Tony."
