Muscle Milk Team CytoSport pushes its way to third on the grid

Timon on track at Road America Elkhart Lake, WI (August 21, 2010) - Muscle Milk Team CytoSport didn't have the easiest of days at Road America but thanks to some last minute changes before qualifying, it came out with a third place on the grid for tomorrow's American Le Mans Series powered by eStar race.

Although the Muscle Milk crew battled straight-line speed issues during the day's practice sessions, finding itself slightly off the desired pace, everyone kept their head down and pushed forward.

The team took advantage of the 40-minute break between practice two and qualifying to return to what it knew best on the Porsche RS Spyder, and it paid off.

Klaus Graf was in charge of qualifying duties for Muscle Milk Team CytoSport and as usual, the speedy German pushed as hard as he could to get the most out of the car, knowing that it would be hard to get by the faster former 'P1' cars that are more powerful on the long straights of the Road America track.

Klaus at Road America After falling to fourth following his third qualifying lap, Graf took back his third place with a lap time of one minute 51.312 seconds on his fourth and final lap. It was the team's fastest time of the weekend.

The third place on the grid will mark the fifth time this season Muscle Milk Team CytoSport starts within the first two rows.

The team will be chasing a tenth podium finish in as many starts since rejoining the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron last season.

What they had to say:

Klaus Graf Headshot Klaus Graf, Qualifying Driver #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder

"I got the most out of the car today. We made the right changes. We never had to fight this hard, like today, to get the car where we wanted it. But sometimes you have to just cool down and think hard and not try to do too much and that's what we did.

"The lap was really good, I don't think we could have gone much quicker than this. I'm very happy for the guys. We're P3, the guys in front of us just have more straight line speed, it's difficult to beat that, but Timo and I will be pushing like crazy in the race. I look forward to that, it is going to be fun."

Timo Bernhard Headshot Timo Bernhard, driver #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder

"Our qualifying result is good. Klaus did a good job. The start tomorrow will likely be difficult because the two cars in front and the one car behind have much quicker acceleration on the straight so it will be interesting to see the start. I just want to have a safe one.

"It will be quite difficult to get around in the traffic and that will be key. Other than that we have a good car and the team, from what I have seen, have been doing good pit stops and that will also be an important key for us for the race. I think it will be a good one for us tomorrow."

Geoffrey Carter Headshot Geoffrey Carter, Team Manager, #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder

"The Muscle Milk Team CytoSport crew did a great job again today. We had some setup challenges this morning but we were able to come back to our baseline. We were a little off the pace this morning but nobody panicked, the guys just kept their head down and did their job. Brandon Fry, our race engineer, went back to what we know on the car for qualifying and the car was razor sharp. As usual Klaus left nothing on the table and the result is that we start P3, which is a good spot for us. The team is carrying a lot of momentum and hopefully it will help us gain some more points back in the championship."
