PIRELLI-SHOD ASTON MARTIN PODIUMS FOR SEVENTH-STRAIGHT TIME IN ALMS AT GENERAC 500 AT ROAD ATLANTA

ELKHART LAKE, Wis., Aug.20, 2006 The Pirelli shod Aston Martin DBR9s dominated every practice session with the #009 Aston setting a qualifying record for today's Generac 500 at Road America; but it was an incident with the #1 Audi prototype that destroyed any chances for the pole-sitter to score Aston's third victory of the American Le Mans season.

Stephane Sarrazin used his record 1:59.638 qualifying run to lead the factory Corvettes for the first 13 laps but the "nudge" into the gravel at turn #12 by the #1 Audi prototype set the #009 car back three laps that it was never able to recover from.

Darren Turner and Tomas Enge were left to challenge the Corvettes in the #007 Aston Martin, leading for a number of laps and running in second with just five minutes to go before a tire puncture made them settle for Aston's seventh-straight podium this season.

The Astons have been competitive all season, earning two wins, three seconds, ten podiums, five poles and three fastest laps, but the breaks often haven't gone their way. Today was one of them!

The ALMS heads to Canada for the eighth round of the series racing in theLabor Day Weekend Grand Prix of Mosport near Toronto on Sunday, Sept.3 at 3 p.m. (EDT) with SPEED TV televising the race from 3 to 6 p.m. (EDT). American Le Mans Radio will have live coverage at americanlemans.com, which also will feature IMSA live timing and scoring.
