Elkhart Lake, WI (18 August 05) After a podium finish in round six, Guy Cosmo is now tied with teammate Jamie Bach for second in the American Le Mans Series LMP2 drivers championship, and Cosmo is looking to keep up the championship pressure in Sunday's Generac 500 at Road America. The race, which will air Live, August 21st from 3:00 PM EST to 6:00 PM on SPEED Channel, will be of particular enjoyment for Cosmo's teammate, as Bach will be celebrating his birthday on Sunday.
For his part, Cosmo is relishing the chance to race at one of the continents best race tracks, the legendary 4.048-mile Road America near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
This won't be his first time through the high-speed Kink, though, as Cosmo first raced in the Toyota Atlantic Championship at Road America in 2001. Although an engine issue late in the race spoiled his hopes of a good finish, he was able to make up for it the following year, taking a win in the Wisconsin woods as part of his 2002 Star Mazda Championship-winning run.
"I love this track," enthused Cosmo. "Each lap here is more like taking a journey rather than just doing a lap. You really feel like you are going somewhere, and there are a lot more hidden secrets around here than people think, on and off the track. It's going to be awesome to blast around Road America with our new Mazda 3-Rotor. The team has done a ground-up rebuild of our Courage and many modifications to our Mazda as a result of the increase in restrictor size given to us from ALMS. Hopefully we'll make the best of it and collect more points towards this championship battle."
Despite missing the opening round at Sebring, the Cosmo/Bach combination is just nine points behind Clint Field in the championship, with their Courage chassis currently leading the chassis-manufacturer point standings.
But it's not going to be all about points and championships this weekend, though as team and series sponsor Sportsbook.com is getting into the fun.
"It's going to be a festive weekend for the team, because race day is Jamie's birthday, and our sponsor Sportsbook.com is having a celebration. They are doing a promotion to give away free bets on their site, so hopefully we'll have a lot of visitors this weekend to cheer us on."
