EXTREME SPEED MOTORSPORTS QUALIFIES IN
6th AND 12th POSITION AT ROAD AMERICA
Field is Set for Round 7 of The American Le Mans Series Presented by Tequila Patrón
Elkhart Lake, WI /// August 21, 2010 /// After tornado conditions yesterday, the weather cooperated a bit better today in scenic Elkhart Lake, WI for the qualifying round at Road America for tomorrows 2-hour 45-minute race in the American Le Mans Series Presented by Tequila Patrón.
Johannes van Overbeek, who has six career wins in the American Le Mans Series, guided the 01 Extreme Speed Motorsports Ferrari around the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course for a best lap time of 2:07:455, earning him and co-driver Scott Sharp the 6th starting spot in the GT class at tomorrow afternoons race.
"The car performed great today, but unfortunately due to an accident out there, we only had two full laps on the track, so we couldnt truly show all we could do," said van Overbeek, referring to a problem with one of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup teams during qualifying. "Nonetheless, this weekend is all about the race tomorrow, and together with Scott and our terrific pit crew, well be ready!"
The 02 car, qualified for the first time this season by Ed Brown, posted a best lap time of 2:15.710. The 02 ESM Ferrari, with Brown and teammate Guy Cosmo behind the wheel tomorrow, will begin the race in 12th position in the GT class.
"Definitely a lot of fun out there, qualifying the car for my first time," commented Ed Brown after he got out of the car today. "It was unfortunate that we caught a red flag just as I was starting to pick up my rhythm, but the car was very good and Im happy where we stand for tomorrow."
The Extreme Speed Motorsports team is well-familiar with Road America team owner Scott Sharp won last years race, driving with then-teammate David Brabham in the LMP1 class. Guy Cosmo holds the track record for the fastest lap in the GTC category, and the qualifying record in that class as well (both set in August 2009).
The Extreme Speed Motorsports Ferraris are running on cellulosic E85R biofuel. The switch to alternative fuels not only helps the performance of the cars, its also in line with the American Le Mans Series global leadership of Green Racing.
