Pompano Beach based Team ADT Champion Racing go on maximum attack in the latest round of the American Le Mans Series on Sunday (24 Aug). Johnny Herbert, of England, and fellow former Grand Prix ace JJ Lehto, of Finland, drive the ADT Champion Audi in the nine-round series which hits the two-thirds mark at Road America in Wisconsin.
A lowly finish in Canada last weekend after a late race collision has knocked the Florida team's championship aspirations off track leaving Johnny and JJ with no option but to start the 165-minute race with a win or bust philosophy.
"We won our first ALMS race in Atlanta two months ago and although we've since netted two seconds and a fourth in class, a win is now needed to keep our championship hopes alive," confirmed Herbert.
Lehto and Herbert line-up in the 30-plus car field placed third and fourth respectively in the Driver's standings with Lehto 18-points behind series leaders and fellow Audi drivers Frank Biela and Marco Werner. Testing around the sweeping 4-mile Road America track commences today (FRI) with qualifying tomorrow (SAT).
