Archangel hopes to duplicate 2001 Road America class win.

July 5, 2002 -- Road Atlanta, GA -- Archangel Motorsport will compete in this weekend's Road America 500 in Elkhart Lake -- not as an SRPII team, but as an LMP 675 effort.

Archangel took last year's SRPII class win in the 500-miler when it was a Rolex event. Now, as an American Le Mans Series event, Archangel returns with the team's #13 Millington-powered Lola B2K/40 LMP 675.

Ben Devlin and Larry Oberto, who delivered last year's Road America class win, will be joined by Seattle's own Peter MacLeod to comprise the team's driver line-up.

The Marshall Cook red, white and black prototype has performed very well in the team's first two outings -- taking a first in class at Sears Point and a second in class at Mid Ohio.

"The program is going according to plan," said Dennis Cook of Marshall Cook Enterprises. "The reliability is in the car, the Marshall Cook development of the Millington engine has proven it solid and very, very reliable. There's some more development to come out of the car, but Archangel has been so busy with their race program we haven't yet been able to implement some of the changes that we'd like to. The changes for the future should probably bring on another 50 to 70 horsepower, which is exactly what the car needs just to give it a bit more pace.

"We're very excited about coming back to Elkhart Lake," said team owner Mike Johnson. "We had a victory here last year with Ben and Larry and they know the track and the strategy. Peter's been great in the races he's run with us before. Our goal is to be the best we can be, and if the MG's run they'll win -- and if they don't hopefully we'll be there!"

"I'm very much looking forward to this race," said Ben Devlin. "It's probably one of the best tracks in America. Also, with the good win we had here last year always gives you a bit more confidence as well having had a great experience. The car's looking good, the team's looking good and both Larry and Peter are really good drivers."

"It's great to be back here to this track after the win last season," said Larry Oberto. Most of the summer so far I've spent on the European tracks, and when I come here the long distance and the winding through the hillsides -- its just beautiful -- as well as challenging. I've raced many times with Mike and the Archangel squad and know that they'll put forth a great challenge."

"It's an honor to be here -- driving with Ben and Larry and the Archangel team," said Peter MacLeod. They won the race here last year, they're coming off two great finishes in their last two ALMS events and I'm privileged to being driving with two great drivers and a great team."
