RICARDO GONZALEZ AIMS FOR LMPC CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2011
Mexico City, Mexico - February 25th, 2011- After recently announcing his plans to compete with CORE Autosport in the 2011 Season of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron, Ricardo Gonzalez is looking forward to an all out championship attack after a partial season in the LMPC category in 2010. Gonzalez will pair with 2010 LMPC Championship runner-up Gunnar Jeannette and will drive the #06 Excel / Composite Resources / Cooper Gay / Oreca FML09 prototype in 2011.
Gonzalez returns to the LMPC category where in 2010, alongside co-driver Luis Diaz, had an impressive showing despite only completing the last four events of the season. The duo scored three pole positions and three podiums in their four starts, including a third at the prestigious Petit Le Mans. This year Gonzalez and Jeannette are immediate championship favorites and have joined forces with CORE Autosport, a rookie team that has put together an imposing effort and group of personnel and has prepared an exciting two car assault for the 2011 ALMS Season. The #06 Oreca FML09 prototype is sponsored by Excel Consultants, Composite Resources, Cooper Gay, Rainmaker Group and SIC.
The 33 year old driver and his team have had a strong pre-season participating in both a private test and the official ALMS Winter test at Sebring International Raceway in preparation for the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring which will take place March 17-19, 2011. Gonzalez will be looking to repeat a successful result at the historic endurance event after scoring a podium finish last year in his ALMS debut. Joining the CORE duo as third driver for the 12 hour event will be Rudy Junco Jr. The Monterrey, Mexico native tested with the team at Sebring and proved to be a strong addition to the already exciting lineup of the #06 car.
