ROMAIN DUMAS CAPTURES FIFTH ALMS GT2 POLE IN AJR PORSCHE, EDGING PATRICK LONG BY TENTH OF A SECOND AT PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY FOR SATURDAY'S EVENING RACE
--Frenchman Romain Dumas, who seems to be the "pole" specialist for Alex Job Racing, put his #23 AJR Hyatt Porsche 911 GT3 RSR on the pole for tomorrow's ALMS Grand Prix of Portland, where he and co-driver Timo Bernhard continue their pursuit of the GT2 class points lead-
PORTLAND, Ore. - July 29 - After capturing the GT2 pole last year at Portland and going on to his first American Le Mans Series win, Romain Dumas is looking for lightning to strike twice as he is on the pole again for Saturday's ALMS Grand Prix of Portland in the #23 Alex Job Racing Hyatt Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.
Dumas, who is co-driving with defending ALMS GT2 class champion Timo Bernhard, predicts another tough battle with the rival Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Porsche of Jorg Bergmeister/Patrick Long.
"They will be right on our tail from the green flag, and we must finish ahead of them to continue to cut their points lead in the series. When they won Sebring and we did not finish, they got a 26-point head start to the season, and we have only cut the lead to 16 points despite three straight wins," said Dumas, who won four poles in a row last year, and now has five career top qualifying sessions.
The event, a two-hour, 45-minute sports car race, will begin Saturday, July 30, at 5:00 PM local time (8:00 PM EDT), and will be broadcast live by The Speed Channel.
Second of the grid is Patrick Long, of Las Vegas, who will share the driving chores with Jorg Bergmeister. Since winning at Sebring, Long/Bergmeister have put their Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Porsche on the podium in every race since, maintaining their points lead despite not winning a second event. Third on the grid is the BAM! Porsche of Wolf Henzler/Mike Rockenfeller, with Henzler turning the fast time during the 20-minute session, while Jon Fogarty put the Flying Lizard Porsche he shares with Johannes van Overbeek in fourth position.
