INDIANAPOLIS (October 17, 2000) -- With their respective wins in the GlobalCenter Sports Car Championships event this past Sunday at California's Laguna Seca Raceway, Allan McNish (Prototype) and Olivier Beretta (GTS) padded their leads in the driver's championship point standings of the American Le Mans Series.

Meanwhile, an incredible battle is raging for the driver's championship in the GT class with only two races remaining in the 2000 season. The series next competes in the Grand Prix of Las Vegas, presented by SEMA, on Oct. 29 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, then concludes Dec. 31 at Adelaide, Australia.

Scotland's McNish, who drives an Audi R8, co-drove with Rinaldo Capello to victory at Laguna Seca for the duo's third straight and fifth overall win of the season. He leads the driver points with 237, while Italy's Capello is second with 227. Jorg Muller of Monaco is third with 221, followed by Finland's JJ Lehto with 220 and Frank Biela of Italy with 214.

Monaco's Beretta, driver for Dodge Viper Team ORECA, drove with Karl Wendlinger to their seventh win of the 2000 season. Beretta leads the GTS class points with 255, while Austria's Wendlinger is second with 252. Tommy Archer of Duluth, Minn., is third with 215, followed by David Donohue of Malvern, Penn., with 209 and Vic Rice of San Rafael, Calif., with 130.

The top six drivers in the GT class are within 14 points of each other as the series heads to Las Vegas. Dirk Muller of Monaco, driver of the Dick Barbour Racing Porsche, leads with 188 points, followed by Randy Pobst of Melbourne, Fla., with 182 and Germany's Sascha Maassen with 181. Bob Wollek of France and Bruno Lambert of Belgium are tied for fourth with 180 points, while Lucas Luhr of Monaco has 174.

Audi leads the Prototype Chassis Manufacturer standings with 242 points, followed by BMW with 215 and Panoz with 194. DaimlerChrysler leads the GTS Automobile Manufacturer standings with 257 points, followed by Porsche with 190 and Chevrolet with 117. In the GT class, Porsche leads with 261 points to 184 for BMW.
