At the end of two hours of the fourth Petit La Mans, The Gulf team of Johansson and Lemarie was in the lead at Road Atlanta. There was action from the beginning lap as Jon Field in the # 37 (P900 Lola b2k/10/Judd) hit the outside wall coming out of turn 12; his race was over before it began.

Ron Fellows in the Corvette (#3-GTS Chevrolet Corvette C-5) suffered and electrical short on lap 2. the short was repaired but excluded from the race because Fellows crew helped to repair the car.

the pole setting car of Capello and Kristensen suffered a punctured tire on Lap 26 and hit the wall. The damage could not be repaired so the leading Factory Audi was retired.
