The LMP2 Penske Racing Porsche of Lucas Luhr and Romain Dumas set the fastest time in Friday's test session for the American Le Mans Series race at Mosport International Raceway. The No. 7 Porsche RS Spyder clocked a time of 1:07.221 on the former F1 circuit, ahead of the two Dyson Racing LMP1 Lola B06/10 AER cars.

The Porsche of Luhr and Dumas, who sit 3rd and 5th in the P2 championship, was two-tenths of a second faster than the other Penske Porsche, piloted by Sascha Maassen, who leads the P2 championship, and Timo Bernhard, which finished the session in the fourth overall spot with a time of 1:07.404.

The Dyson Racing Lola of Chris Dyson and Guy Smith set a time of 1:07.254, while that of James Weaver and Butch Leitzinger has a time of 1:07.361, making it a very tight leaderboard.

Next up, sitting fifth and sixth, were the two Audi Sport North America P1 Audi R10 TDIs. Points leaders Rinaldo Capello and Allan McNish set a time of 1:07.560, while that of Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro a time of 1:07.796.

These six cars were a large margin ahead of the rest of the field. In seventh was the last of the P2 cars -- the Intersport racing Lola of Clint Field, Jon Field and Liz Halliday. Clint Field and Halliday currently sit second in the P2 championship behind Maassen.

Up next were all four LMGT1 class cars, with the two Aston Martins sitting ahead of the two Corvettes, the four cars being covered by just over a second. The 009 Aston Martin of Pedro Lamy and Stephane Sarrazin, who are fifth and fourth in the GT1 championship respectively were the first of these cars, posting a time of 1:13.974. Their teammates Tomas Enge and Darren Turner posted a time of 1:14.523.

The Corvette C6-R of Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell was next with a time of 1:14.934, ahead of their Corvette Racing teammates and GT1 championship leaders Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta, who posted a time of 1:15.072.

Next up, in twelfth overall, was the last of the P1 cars. The Autocon Motorsports Lola EX257 of Chris Murray and Michael Lewis posted a time of 1:16.591. Then we had the entire GT2 field.

The Risi Competizione Ferrari of Mario Dominguez and Stephane Ortelli was the first of these cars, posting a time of 1:17.964. They were followed by their teammates Toni Vilnader and Marc Gene, with a time of 1:18.792 in their Ferrari 430 GT Berlinetta.

GT2 Championship leader Johannes van Overbeek was next with in the Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Van Overbeek shares the ride with Wolf Henzler.

Canadian driver Scott Maxwell, in a Panoz with co-driver David Brabham, could only set the sixth best GT2 with a time of 1:19.878.

The defending GT2 champions Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing team had both of their drivers busy elsewhere and Tim Bergmeister ran the Porsche through its paces on behalf of his brother Jorg and Patrick Long.

Whatever these times say, it may all mean nothing, as the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto head into Mosport territory on Saturday afternoon and Sunday, leaving the Mosport track most definitely a different experience for all cars for the rest of the weekend.
