Melanie Paterson to Drive American Spirit LMP900

Melanie Paterson announced today that she will be stepping up for the Petit Le Mans -- into an LMP900 car. Melanie will be joining American Spirit Racing driving the Amerisuites Riley & Scott MKIIIc LMP900 powered by a Lincoln V8. Melanie will be co-driving with Michael Lewis and Tomy Drissi in the 1000 mile race at Road Atlanta on October 18. The Petit Le Mans is the finale for the 2003 American Le Mans Series. The Petit Le Mans will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel on October 18th starting at 11:00am ET.

"I am thrilled to be driving an LMP900 at Road Atlanta," said Paterson. "I have always wanted to step up to an LMP900, and this is a great opportunity. The American Spirit Racing team is a good group with a reliable finishing record -- just what we need for a race such as Petit Le Mans!"

After driving the LMP675 for the past season, Melanie is eager to step up to the top class in the American Le Mans Series. The LMP675 prototype class is given its name because the minimum weight for cars in that class is 675kg, whereas the LMP900 class has a 900kg minimum weight. The LMP675 category consists of lighter cars with 400-500hp and the LMP900 category has the larger cars with 600+hp.

Melanie will warm up for Petit Le Mans at Portland International Raceway on October 11th when she competes in the 8 Hours of the Cascade in a the John Ladd Car Store BMW 325.
