PRIMETIME FINDS MORE TIME IN TIRES
August 19th Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada - After a two day test with their tire partner "Hankook Tire USA", Primetime Race Group was very excited about what the results had shown. The team arrived at Mosport International Raceway on Monday morning and was greeted by over 200 tires and 4 Hankook engineers. The test plan involved a lot of back to back testing between compounds and tire construction. Over the course of two days, drivers Feinberg and Hall had crossed the finish line almost 250 times on the 2.5 mile track.
The first test day was dedicated to mostly compound testing which proved to show a tremendous gain in overall grip. The second day was all about tire construction which is mostly about how the sidewall of the tire flexes and can be just as important as the compound. At the end of the test the team had chosen a compound and construction combo that found the team closing the gap on their competitors by nearly two full seconds.
"This was one of the most successful tire tests I've ever been involved with. We tested several different mold shapes, tread compounds, and carcass constructions, and the drivers provided us with instant feedback that was also backed up by our computer data. Primetime has been a great asset to our race tire development program, and we look forward to a great future together" said Dave Martin, Senior Project Engineer of Hankook Motorsports Programs.
Primetime had started their ALMS venture on Michelins which is what the Viper had been developed on in Europe for FIA GT3. After finding that the GT3 specs would not be competitive enough for ALMS GT2, Primetime made the decision to start over with Hankook and develop their own GT2 tire that would be more specific to the hurdles faced in ALMS. Hankook and Primetime will continue to make improvements through the rest of the season and hopes to see big improvements for the 2009 season.
"Our partnership with Hankook has been the best addition to our program, as a global company they have truly focused their time and commitment to give us the best chance to compete. Our goal is to finish off this season strong and show up even stronger in 2009", said team owner Joel Feinberg.
The team will begin official practice and testing on August 22nd and try to find even more gains in time for the 2008 Grand Prix of Mosport on Sunday August 24th. Primetime also supports 3 Elan DP-02 cars running in the IMSA Lites Series which has races on Saturday and Sunday. Feinberg, who is second in the series points, will be driving the #7 Hankook sponsored car as he looks to take the lead in the 2008 Championship.
