Corvettes Qualify Second and Fourth for Grand Prix of Mosport Intense Competition in ALMS Ends Corvette Racing's GT1 Pole Qualifying Streak

BOWMANVILLE, Ont., Sept. 3, 2005 - The Corvette C6.R's seven-race streak of fast qualifying times in the American Le Mans Series ended today at Mosport International Raceway. Corvette Racing's Oliver Gavin was the second fastest qualifier in the GT1 class at 1:13.765 (120.008 mph) in the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R for Sunday's Grand Prix of Mosport. Ron Fellows was fourth fastest with the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R at 1:13.891 (119.803 mph). The Saleen S7R of Terry Borcheller won the GT1 pole for the first time in 2005 with a fast lap of 1:13.450 (120.523 mph).

"Who would have thought that the top four cars at Mosport would be within four tenths of a second?" said Steve Wesoloski, GM Racing road racing group manager. "Today's qualifying results bode well for the health of the series. It shows that we're going to be able to race hard on Sunday, and that's what Corvette Racing looks forward to."

"All of our drivers are happy with their cars, and that's our primary objective," Wesoloski continued. "We don't really set up the cars for qualifying, so having the drivers comfortable with their cars is important."

Traffic was a factor on the 2.46-mile circuit, which is the fastest track in the ALMS series.

"I didn't think that I really nailed it on my fast lap, and perhaps I left a couple of tenths on the track," said Gavin. "We knew traffic was going to be an issue here. You've got to get a perfectly clean lap and we never quite got that today."

"The Saleen is very quick, and I think we would have struggled to match its speed," the Briton noted. "They got a good lap and they deserve the pole. It's great for the series and great for the fans."

Fellows drew the qualifying assignment for the No. 3 Corvette C6.R at his home track, and he didn't disappoint his legions of fans.

"It was an exciting qualifying run just trying to keep track of all the changes in the order," said the racer from Mississauga, Ont. "We went from P1 to P4 in a lap. This is one time that I think I could find a few tenths if I could do qualifying over again. The car was good and I did the best lap that I could, but I sure would have liked to take one more shot at it."
