Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder qualifies fourth in class

Muscle Milk RS Spyder on track at MO LEXINGTON, OH, Friday, August 7, 2009 - Team Cytosport marked its return to the American Le Mans Series with Klaus Graf pushing the new Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder to fourth on the LMP2 grid in qualifying at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course today.

Even if the team is competing in its first race of the year this weekend, the Muscle Milk crew showed no signs of it. Led by driver Klaus Graf, Team Cytosport placed fourth in class and sixth overall on the grid for Saturday's American Le Mans Series Race.

In a very competitive battle in the LMP2 class, Graf jumped up to P1 overall early in the session but fell to third at the end of his first stint. During his second stint, the German driver managed to improve his lap time to 1:11.404 but had to settle for a fourth place in class and sixth overall on tomorrow's starting grid.

Owner/Driver Greg Pickett and Klaus Graf will be making their first ALMS start of the season and first aboard the Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder in Saturday's Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The race goes green at 3:00 pm eastern time and can be seen tape delayed on NBC Sports on Sunday, August 9 at 2:30 p.m. eastern time.

What they had to say:

Klaus Graf, Qualifying driver #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder: "I think overall we can be pleased. We're right there with all the other cars. Obviously it's very competitive in the LMP2 class. We had the Dyson's split almost to the end and they got us on the last lap so that's a bit of a shame. I would have liked to stay ahead of one Dyson car. Our Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder was fantastic. The guys did a very good job. We've done very little testing honestly so to come in like this in this type of competition and be right there with everybody else I think it shows really good work by the team, Porsche, Michelin and everybody involved. It's a good day for us."

Greg Pickett Greg Pickett, Owner/driver: "We're brand new. All this stuff is just so new to us. We've only put in less than 300 miles total in testing and practice and we were splitting the Mazda's with one lap to go. We're very happy about that. Our time has consistently gone down. Porsche's happy, Michelin's happy and so Greg Pickett is happy. It's fun to be here and everyone has been very complimentary. The whole paddock is in mid-season form and to come here like we have makes me very proud of this team. Our goal is to go in the right direction and that's what we're doing. That's what I'm looking for. I'm also very happy with Klaus. I had about half of a dozen folks from Adrian Fernandez to Paul Tracy asking me 'who is this Klaus Graf guy'. More people are going to know about Klaus. He is really underrated and we snuck up here with him. He loves the car and is getting more used to it. Our little team came together at the last minute and I'm just really pleased. I think we're doing OK for the brand, so far so good!"
