MID-OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE BEGINS SEASON JUNE 19
DUBLIN, OH (June 16, 2009) -- Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, in Lexington, Ohio, opens its racing season with its first spectator weekend of the summer, The EMCO Gears Classic presented by KeyBank on June 19-21.
The Grand-Am Rolex Series' sixth race of 2009 is the first spectator weekend for the 330-acre facility in Lexington, Ohio. The 48th season of racing at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course -- the most competitive course in the U.S. -- gets under way this weekend with what is arguably the most competitive road and street racing series in the U.S., the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.
The ultra-modern machines of Grand-Am will give way to the nostalgia-evoking sights and sounds of the Vintage Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio on the following weekend. The event will honor legendary racing and sports car marques, with the original Mini Cooper and its storied 40-year history recognized as this year's auto of honor.
The action will pick back up July 17-19 when Mat Mladin and stars of AMA Pro American Superbike ride into Lexington for Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire. Sharing the weekend with the stars of AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike, AMA Pro Moto-GT and AMA Pro SuperSport, the Superbikes always weave a two-wheel tapestry of nail-biting action and high-speed thrills.
The clock will get turned back July 24-26 as the course welcomes all the classic bikes of yesteryear for AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days. With BSA motorcycles as the feature marque and the legendary Don Emde as the Grand Marshal, the 85th Anniversary of the AMA will be packed with both on and off-track action.
Mid-Ohio will play host to its biggest racing event of the season August 7-9. Two stand-alone series will meet in a celebration of speed and technology that will be both entertaining and incredibly fan-accessible. The future of automotive technology will be on display when the American Le Mans Series will hit the track Saturday. On Sunday, the fenders come off when Helio Castroneves, Danica Patrick and all the stars of the IndyCar Series take the green flag for the Honda Indy 200 presented by Westfield Insurance.
The course will welcome the AMA Road Race Grand Championships September 11-13. Come to watch the future stars of American motorcycle racing take their turn at the famed course as Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course closes its doors to fans for the season.
