Marcelli Storms Through To Finish 4th In Ohio
Lexington, Ohio (August 9th 2010) Professional Race Car Driver Kyle Marcelli stormed through the field Saturday afternoon to finish a respectable 4th place in round six of the American Le Mans Series this past weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course located in Lexington, Ohio.
After one of the most exciting qualifying sessions in the LMPC class for 2010, the 20 year old Barrie, Ontario native qualified the #89 entry 3rd place on the grid behind PR1's Luis Diaz and Level 5's Christophe Bouchut.
"The team gave me a great car and I put it to good use in qualifying. Running with hard compound Michelin tires, each lap of the 20 minute session was quicker than the previous. It was important to keep pushing. Overall, I was satisfied with our qualifying run however I know there was more in myself and the car, we were confident going into the race." said Kyle Marcelli.
The 2h 45min race set to take place around the 2.5 mile circuit shaped up to be one for the ages. With nearly perfect race conditions overhead, 34 cars took the green flag. Co-driver Brian Wong started the race. Keeping the car out of trouble and running consistent laps, it was a pit-stop at the 45 minute mark that got Marcelli into the seat. As Marcelli stormed out of the pits, the IMSA officials waived the mechanical flag at the #89 car forcing him to return to pit lane. The crew did an outstanding job getting Marcelli back into the race immediately. Down over a lap and a half at that point, Marcelli pushed hard lap after lap under green race conditions bringing the car back into the race.
After setting some of the quickest lap times, and the team working the cautions perfectly, Marcelli came from the back of the grid to cross the finish line after 2h 45min 4th in class missing out on 3rd position by only 1.073 (s).
"Considering everything we had thrown at us during the race I feel we did a great job to battle through and excel from the situation. It goes to show the integrity of everyone on the team. With Road American around the corner, our goal is nothing short of victory." said Kyle Marcelli. "I would like to send a special thank you to Jon and Clint Field of Intersport Racing....."
Kyle would like to thank his sponsors: Lafarge, DynaPep Energy, Simcoe Building Center, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Barrie Trim and Mouldings, Alpinestars, SimpleFuelTax.com, Century Craft Custom Home Builders, River Rock Financial, GP Masonry & Landscaping Supplies, Spherion Staffing Solutions and the Horsepower Entertainment Group for there continued support.
