Flying Lizard Arrives at Mid-Ohio for Third ALMS Contest of 2005
May 19, 2005--Lexington, OH - Flying Lizard Motorsports arrives today at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the third race of the 2005 ALMS season. Drivers Johannes van Overbeek and Jon Fogarty are at the helm of the team's No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. Teammates Lonnie Pechnik and Seth Neiman are driving the No. 44 Porsche. The American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio is the last ALMS race before the GT2 team heads to France to run the 24 Heures du Mans, June 18-19.
It was at Mid-Ohio in 2004 that the Flying Lizard squad earned their first ALMS win in class when the No. 45, manned by van Overbeek and 2004 teammate Darren Law, sped to victory on the 2.25 mile course. "Winning at Mid-Ohio last year was unexpected so early in our first year of competition, which made it that much more rewarding," said van Overbeek. "We'll do everything we can to capture the win again but there's definitely a strong GT2 field this year; we'll have our work cut out for us."
Teammate Pechnik recalls the challenges that sister car No. 44 faced at last year's competition. "I'll never forget what a great job the crew did putting us back on track after the car was totaled in practice here last year," said Pechnik. "Mid-Ohio is one of my favorite circuits and I'm hoping for a smooth weekend to give us a solid platform going into Le Mans."
Crew chief Tommy Sadler added, "One of our challenges is to maintain the right level of focus for this week's race while still moving our Le Mans work forward. This is the first time we've faced this and it's definitely adding to the complexity for this race."
The American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio gets the checkered flag at 12 pm ET, Sunday May 22, 2005. The race will be broadcast on CBS beginning at 1 pm ET. For the complete team schedule, visit www.lizardms.com.
