NOTES OF INTEREST

Racing returned to the streets of Miami in 2002 as the American Le Mans Series and the Champ Cars of CART joined together for the first time ever on an event weekend. The unique "Dual Headline" event will be repeated in 2003 in what is being dubbed the "Blast By The Bay". The Miami street circuit, which incorporates part of Bayfront Park as well as Biscayne Boulevard and other city streets, runs alongside picturesque Biscayne Bay in Miami's Downtown section. The circuit has been slightly reconfigured since the 2002 event, eliminating the portion that was located furthest south and adding more on the north end. Miami held many successful street racing events for both sports cars and open-wheel cars until the mid 1990's.
