Marino Franchitti Heads to Road America

It's not surprising that the very fast sweeping turns and undulating track comprising the 4.048 mile, 14-turn road coarse, make Road America another of Marino's favourite tracks on the ALMS 2012 schedule. And it's a circuit where Marino has set pole positions in the past, the last occasion being in 2009 driving the Mazda LMP2 car, which was also Marino's last time at the Road America road course set in the beautiful countryside of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Unfortunately having been beaten into 2nd place in the race in 2009 , Marino is hoping for a repeat of his performance in Mid Ohio just two weeks' ago when he also took pole, and then went on to set the fastest race lap and win the LMPC category. Marino is again teamed with Rudy Junco, his co-driver in Mid Ohio, and the pairing will be hoping they can bring the #52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports LMPC Oreca FLM car to the chequered flag for another race win next Saturday.

Needless to say Marino is very upbeat going into the event, "Road America is such a fast and fun circuit to drive, it's a couple of years since I raced there so I can't wait to get on track. Rudy and I are hoping the whole PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports team can carry the momentum and success of Mid Ohio into this weekend and get another victory".

The Road America Road Race Showcase is the seventh round of the 2012 ALMS Series. LMPC qualifying will be on Friday, 17th August, at 4.15pm local time and the four-hour race gets the green flag on Saturday, 18th August at 2.30pm local time.
