BOWMANVILLE, ON, CANADA, Wednesday, 17 July 2013: He scored his first American Le Mans Series victory here, took the GT pole position last year and now Jan Magnussen has his sights set on continuing his strong championship challenge this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park near Toronto.
Magnussen and teammate Antonio Garcia have roared back into championship contention with three consecutive strong performances including victory at Laguna Seca.
Despite failing to score points at Sebring, the Danish/Spanish duo are currently second in the GT championship chase. They trail BMW's Dirk Mueller by 16 points but know it only takes one strong day for Corvette Racing and misfortune for BMW for the championship battle to become incredibly close.
Magnussen and Garcia finished second in the most recent round of the championship at Lime Rock Park. The duo also finished second here in Canada last year. Magnussen took a run at the Porsche of Joerg Bergmeister on the final lap to challenge for the win. The Porsche driver blocked the move which left Magnussen open to the assault from ESM Racing's Johannes van Overbeek.
While third across the line, the post race disqualification of Bergmeister and Patrick Long elevated Magnussen and Garcia to second.
Testing for this weekend's event kicks off on Friday afternoon at the circuit which now features ex-Corvette favorite Ron Fellows as part of the ownership group.
In the lead up to the ALMS annual Canadian visit this weekend, Magnussen has been keeping an eye from afar on the progress of his son Kevin who topped the timesheets for McLaren on Wednesday in the Formula 1 Young Driver Test at Silverstone.
