Dalziel ready to race at the Rock
Orlando, Florida (June 30, 2005) -- Ryan Dalziel returns to American Le Mans Series (ALMS) action this weekend, 1st-4th July, at Lime Rock Park for the 'New England Grand Prix', the fourth round of North America's premier sports car competition.
The 23-year-old Scottish ace, racing the privately entered Pacific Coast Motorsports #5 Menards-Yokohama C5-R Corvette together with America's Alex Figge, is out to capitalize on the team's solid start to their rookie sports car season and aim for their first GT1 podium of 2005.
With steady progress evident from the first three races, the team recording three consecutive top-ten overall finishes and sixth, fifth and fourth place GT1 finishes respectively, Dalziel is optimistic heading into Monday's 2-hour 45-minute endurance sprint at Lime Rock Park.
Looking ahead he commented:
"It's been a long layoff since we raced at Mid-Ohio at the end of May so I'm looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the Menards-Yokohama Corvette and getting back into GT1 action with Pacific Coast Motorsports. I'm confident that we've made gains in the car prior to Lime Rock and we'll be running this weekend with brand new Yokohama tires which will hopefully give us an added performance boost.
"It would be great to challenge for a class podium, we've been edging nearer and nearer so if we can get the pace right at Lime Rock there's no reason to think we couldn't do it. The car's been super reliable since we started racing it at Sebring and I'm keen to see how it handles this weekend as it's a small, tight 1.5-mile circuit. We'll learn the track quickly on Friday and hopefully get a strong set-up together for Saturday's qualifying then Monday's race."
America's holiday weekend, complete with Monday's 4th of July celebrations, is a busy one for Dalziel with his ALMS duties being preceded by a Grand-Am sports car race at Daytona International Speedway tonight. Ryan, together with his brother John, will race in the seventh round of the Rolex Sports Car Series, campaigning the GT #61 SAMAX Porsche on Daytona's 3.56-mile road course before jetting to Lakeville, Connecticut tonight to prepare for Friday's ALMS practice session at Lime Rock Park.
