J3 Racing Ready for ALMS Season Finale
Monterey, Calif. -- J3 Racing will run the final race of the American Le Mans Series on Yokohama tires on both of their entries this weekend. Round ten of the series will be run this Saturday at the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Tim Sugden and Justin Jackson will have to adjust the setup of the number 79/Rock Star Energy Drink/J3 Racing/Porsche 911 RSR this weekend as the team has made a change in tire brands. The change was made in an effort to boost the performance and consistency of the car. "It seemed like we had a totally different car for each race on our other tire brand," commented Tim Sugden. "We hope that the Yokohama will give us some consistency over the longer stints."
"In the first practice we were just seeing what we had with the Yokohamas," continued Sugden. "We will have to adjust on the car throughout today and tomorrow to make sure we can maximize the grip level. I really like the track, it has a great flow, except the Cork Screw turn interrupts that flow. It is a brilliant corner and a lot of fun to drive when the car is handling, but a little out of place."
"I really like Laguna, with a good setup under the car it is great to drive, but you have to have the confidence to get around here fast," explains Justin Jackson. With the new tires we are really back to square-one as far as setup goes. We have been trying different combinations nearly every time we come into the pits. The car seems better, but we will see how we do on long runs. The night time running is really unique, it gives you a different perspective on the track. It also changes the car as the temperature drops from the day time by about 15-degrees."
The companion number 78/J3 Racing/Porsche RSR will be driven this weekend by Marco Petrini and Maurizio Fabris.
The final round of the American Le Mans Series will be run on Saturday, October 15th at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The race will be televised tape delayed on the Speed Channel starting at 1:00 p.m. EST Sunday, October 16th.
