LUX CAN CLINCH WOMEN'S SERIES TITLE AT LAGUNA SECA MONTEREY, CALIF., Oct. 5, 1999 - Cindi Lux of Aloha, Ore., can clinch the inaugural Women's Global GT Series championship in the circuit's fifth race Sunday at Laguna Seca Raceway. Lux holds a 22-point edge over Divina Galica of Sebring, Fla., going into Sunday's 45-minute race over Laguna Seca's venerable road course. She needs only to finish four points ahead of Galica to nail down the title - two positions if both are in the top five. Galica has come on strong of late after missing the season opener in April at Road Atlanta. She came back to score a victory at Road Atlanta in the most recent event last month. In addition to Galica's victory, the series has produced three other winners in as many races. Audrey Zavodsky of New Boston, Mich., won the opener at Road Atlanta, Lux took the second round at Sears Point Raceway and Sara Senske of Kennewick, Wash., won the third at Portland. All are entered at Laguna Seca. The Laguna round will mark the series debuts for Sonja Bayer of Munich, Germany, a veteran of the European touring car ranks. Also figuring to be in the hunt are three California drivers. Allison Duncan of San Rafael, after getting the pole at Sears Point and falling back to the rear on the start, charged through the field to second in that outing. Jennifer Tumminelli of nearby Los Gatos has logged many racing miles at Laguna. Belinda Endress of Newbury Park charged to second ahead of Lux last month at Road Atlanta. The drivers compete in equally-prepared Panoz Esperantes built in the Panoz Auto Development shops in Hoschton, Ga., and maintained at the Panoz Driving School in Braselton, Ga. The race is a companion to the VISA Sportscar Championships American Le Mans Series sports car event. The entries: DRIVER/HOMETOWN SPONSOR(S) Belinda Endress/Newbury Park, Calif.
