MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA TO VISIT THE BAY AREA FOR MONTEREY SPORTS CAR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Pit Stop Challenge, Mini Le Mans Head To San Francisco, San Jose In Advance of Monterey Sports Car Championships
MONTEREY, Calif. (October 5, 2006) -- Fans visiting Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the Monterey Sports Car Championships October 20-22 will see the stars and cars of the American Le Mans Series, of course. But sports car fans in San Francisco and San Jose will have an opportunity to see these cars in places they couldn't normally -- on the city streets!
On Tuesday, October 17, the Klein Tools Pit Crew Challenge will take place in front of the Joseph L. Alioto Performing Arts Plaza (formerly Civic Center) in downtown San Francisco. The Mazda Courage and crew of BK Motorsports and the GT2 Porsche 911 of Flying Lizard will participate, demonstrating an American Le Mans Series pit stop. Select fans and media will have the opportunity to participate in a tire change. The Klein Tools Pit Crew Challenge will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Wednesday, October 18 will bring the sites and sounds of the Monterey Sports Car Championships to downtown San Jose. Drivers and cars from the American Le Mans Series and SPEED World Challenge hit the streets surrounding Plaza de Cesar Chavez park for Mini Le Mans of San Jose presented by Sunoco. Sports car fans in the South Bay will have opportunities to get driver autographs, win Monterey Sports Car Championship prizes, and see the cars on the same public streets that take thousands to their office every day. Mini Le Mans of San Jose will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The pre-event activities build the excitement to the season-ending Monterey Sports Car Championships, featuring the four-hour American Le Mans Series finale as they race into the evening on Saturday, October 21. Fans returning for the final day of the October 20-22 event will find plenty to see and do as the SPEED World Challenge GT and Touring classes, IMSA GT3 Cup, Star Mazda Series and Superstars of Super Karts will help provide world-class racing throughout the fall classic.
Tickets and more information for the Monterey Sports Car Championships, the final event on the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca 50th Season of Racing calendar, are available by calling (800) 327-SECA or on-line at www.laguna-seca.com.
