ALTON, Vir. (Sept. 13, 2012) – Johnny Mowlem will rejoin Dyson Racing for the VIR 240 American Le Mans Series sports car race as the team pushes towards consecutive team and driver championships.
Mowlem will team with defending LMP1 driving champions Chris Dyson and Guy Smith in their B12/66 prototype Lola racer. Mowlem has driven with the Dyson/Smith duo during longer endurance races this season.
“I’m delighted that Chris Dyson has asked me back to help support him and Guy Smith as they go all out to try and retain their ALMS championship,” Mowlem said.
The Dyson/Smith pairing trails Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr by just nine points in the drivers championship standings. The Dyson team trails Pickett Racing by five points in the race for the team title.
Mowlem is racing with the Dyson effort with permission from Lotus, for whom he is a factory racer and development driver.
The four-hour race around the 3.27-mile, 17 turn VIR venue will be the shortest event where Mowlem has teamed with Dyson this season. But the race pays two extra points per finishing position, adding to its importance in the championship chase.
A Britisher, Johnny Mowlem’s international racing credentials include wins in the Rolex 24, the 12 Hours of Sebring and podium finishes in both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Petit Le Mans.
