The first Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC), a project dear to the heart of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, has been launched and has all the makings of a revenge match of this year's Le Mans 24 Hours. No fewer than six manufacturers will do battle in the biggest events of the different Le Mans Series to try and win the first ILMC Trophy in history.

6 manufacturers for 2 titles

Two manufacturers' titles in the LM P1 and LM GT2 categories will be awarded in the ILMC. In LM P1, Audi and Peugeot have both entered works teams and the result will be a top-quality duel.

The Ingolstadt firm has entered two Audi TDI R15 Pluses under the Audi Sport Team Joest banner. They won the 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours and made history by setting a new distance record in the Sarthe classic.

French company Peugeot has also entered a couple of Peugeot 908 HDi FAPs, which have been the yardstick in endurance 'made in Le Mans,' in the Peugeot Sport colours. Peugeot can also count on the ORECA team, but at Silverstone only.

The French squad will be out for revenge. Both Audi and Peugeot will use the intercontinental battle to showcase their technology.

In the GT2 category, there will not be a duel. Instead there will be a no-holds-barred battle between four prestigious makes - Porsche, BMW, Jaguar and of course, Ferrari.

Porsche, the current Le Mans title holder will be represented by Flying Lizard in the USA, and Felbermayr-Proton and Prospeed in Europe and China. The manufacturer from Weissach will also enter the brand-new ground-breaking Porsche GT hybrid in America and in China, which will run outside the classification ; proof of the interest of the LE MANS races as a laboratory for new technologies.

Ferrari wiil be out for revenge after its Le Mans setback. Risi Competizione will represent the Prancing Horse in the USA, and AF Corse and CRS in Europe and China.

BMW Motorsport, which has entered a BMW GT2, will be represented by the Rahal-Letterman team in the USA, and the Schnitzer team in Europe and China.

Jaguar, determined to add another chapter to its glorious past, will enter two cars (XKR) in the USA and China.

Trophies for the teams

In addition to the manufacturers' titles, the ILMC will also award 4 titles to the teams that will enable them to win invitations for the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours in each of the four categories, a move that has attracted the Drayson Racing Lola-Judd coupe and Aston Martin Racing in LM P1.

In LM P2, the French OAK Racing squad will take on the Mik Racing team's Lola.

In GT1, the Larbre Competition (Saleen), Jloc (Lamborghini), FX Atlas (Saleen) and Nova (Aston Martin) teams will fight to win the swansong title in this category.

And last but not least, the ACO in keeping with its promotional aims (a low-cost channel for promotion), has given the Formula Le Mans cars currently racing in the ALMS and LMS (14 in all) the opportunity to compete in the Chinese round of the ILMC.

Silverstone, Petit Le Mans and Zhuhai… 3 exceptional events

The Silverstone 1000 kms, the final round of the 2010 LMS and European leg of the championship, will kick off the ILMC on 11-12 September with a field of 47 cars!

The 2nd round held on the American continent will be the Petit Le Mans on the Road Atlanta circuit on 1-2 October with 48 cars at the start.

The first titles in the championship's history will be awarded when the ILMC pitches its tent in China on the Asian continent for the third round, the Zhuhai 1000 kms between 5-7 November: some 25 to 30 entrants are expected for the final.

Rolex too enters the ILMC

The famous, prestigious Swiss watchmaker, a major partner in the Le Mans 24 Hours, is now the ILMC's official time piece and time-keeping partner. Rolex and many other famous brands like Audi, Peugeot, DHL, Michelin, Dunlop and Shell will add their colours to the brand-new ILMC logo unveiled in this press release.
