Jeannette To Grab Extra Miles With Jackson Aboard Panoz
Panoz Motor Sports official test driver Gunnar Jeannette will team up with sportscar driver and enthusiast Wayne Jackson in a third Panoz in selected rounds of this year's American Le Mans Series.
Jackson has added the Panoz LMP-1 (chassis #01) to his already impressive collection of historic sportscars which include a Porsche 956, Ferrari 333SP (chassis #001) and a Nissan GTP machine.
While he has considerable experience aboard historic prototype machines, this will be Jackson's first assault in contemporary machinery in the LMP900 class.
Jeannette will join Jackson for the 50th Anniversary Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring - Presented by Dodge, next month as well as the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta at the conclusion of the season.
A former AMA Superbike racer, Jackson anticipates entering the Miami and Washington D.C. street events - Washington being the home race for the Columbia Maryland resident.
After Jackson and Jeannette tested the Panoz LMP-1 at Road Atlanta on Tuesday, it's new owner was full of praise for his new machine.
"I am really ecstatic at the opportunity," Jackson said.
"This car is really fast and solid and I was pleasantly surprised to learn how cost effective the car will be to run.
"The support from Don Panoz and the factory team already has been fantastic and I am really looking forward to Sebring. I have always been a big Porsche fan in the past, but there is no substitute for brute V8 American power."
After strong performances in historic cars, Jackson made his ALMS debut in the 1999 Petit Le Mans. He has moved through the ranks - taking the fastest lap in the GTS class at the Daytona 24 Hour last year.
Jackson's historic stable is maintained by Kevin Jeannette - Gunnar's father - who also will oversee his Panoz assault.
"With Kevin preparing my cars and Gunnar being the official factory test driver - it makes perfect sense to have Gunnar join me," Jackson said.
"He is a very talented young man and will prove to be very beneficial to our program."
Gunnar will join the factory squad for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, but is delighted at the opportunity to gain some additional race miles.
"This will allow me to get a lot of laps in the car before Le Mans - it really is an ideal situation for me to learn more about the Panoz and working through traffic in an LMP900 car," he said.
"This year is just getting better and better for me. I really can't wait to get started at Sebring."
