March 14-18, 2001
NUMBER OF TIRES SUPPLIED: 2,000
TIRES: Goodyear Eagle Sports Car Radials
Televised: Live on Speedvision
NOTES AND QUOTES:
The 12 Hours of Sebring is contested on the oldest road course in North America. The all-time race roster includes some of the most accomplished drivers in the history of the sport. The 3.7-mile course includes 17 turns.
** GOODYEAR TIRE NOTE: The number of different divisions of race cars at Sebring means Goodyear will bring tire of many different sizes and compounds to the event. Then toss in the possibility of rain during the race and the need for specially-prepared Goodyear Eagle Sports Car Radial rain tires and you have a huge variety of tires available for the event. The Goodyear rain tires performed superbly during the 24 Hours of Daytona.
** GOODYEAR QUOTE: Bob Shaffer, Marketing Manager, Sports Car Racing: "The overall class, where Goodyear's Rob Dyson's team will be competing, he'll have to race against the Audis and the Panoz. It'll be very competitive. It'll be a quick-paced race. We're very optimistic. We're hoping to tack this on to the Daytona 24-Hour win."
** Goodyear-shod cars have won the 12 Hours of Sebring 19 times in the 48-year history of the event, the best record among tire makers.
** Goodyear driver Ron Fellows holds the GTS class qualifying record at Sebring. His single-lap average speed of 111.32 mph was set in a Chevrolet Corvette last year.
** Goodyear is the only tire maker with a chance to capture the Grand Slam of sports car racing: The 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of LeMans and the Petite LeMans this season. Goodyear won the 24 Hours of Daytona last month.
** Goodyear team cars have recorded victories in two major sports car races already this season. The Corvette driven by Johnny O'Connell, Ron Fellows, Chris Kneifel and Franck Freon won the overall victory in the 24 Hours of Daytona and O'Connell and Fellows teamed in a Corvette to win the American LeMans Series opener at Texas Motor Speedway.
