Starting grid set by points

A mixture of adverse weather conditions prevailed during American LeMans Series qualifications at Long Beach on Friday afternoon, forcing officials to cancel qualifying runs and to set the starting line-up for Saturday’s two-hour race based on points. Although the outcome was unusual, it did take place on Friday the 13th, which may make it easier to understand.

Starting from the pole in the P1 class will be the Dyson Racing Lola B12/60 of Chris Dyson and Guy Smith, and they will be trailed by the Muscle Milk Pickett Racing HPD ARX-03a of Lucas Luhr and Klaus Grag. The third starter will be another Dyson entry of Eric Lux and Michael Marsal.

The P2 lineup will be led by the Level 5 Motorsports HPD ARX-03b of Scott Tucker and Christophe Bouchut. Following them will be the Black Swan Racing Lola B11/80 HPD of Timothy Pappas and Jeroen Bleekemolen with the Conquest Endurance Morgan team of Martin Plowman and David Heinemeier Hansson holding down the third starting position.

The BMW Team RLL team of Joey Hand and Dirk Muller will head-up the 12-car GT field. A pair of Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1s will start second and third with Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia in the first Corvette and Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner in the second entry.

Alex Popow and Ryan Dalziel will have their CORE Autosport Oreca FLM09 in the front of the PC group and next to them will be Butch Leitzinger and Rudy Junco in the PR1 Mathiasen Motorsport entry. Third in the PC class will be the second CORE entry of Colin Braun and Jonathan Bennett.

Heading the six-car GTC field will be the Alex Job Racing team of Leh Keen and Cooper MacNeil and then comes the Green Hornet Racing duo of Peter LeSafre and Damien Faulkner and the TRG team of Spencer Pumpelly and Emilio Di Guida.

Thirty-three cars will take the green flag at 7:30 p.m. ET, and it will be streamed live on ESPN3.com and telecast by ESPN2.
